Lake Charles

Lake Charles is about four hours from NOLA, only three hours from Houston. Some might say that Southwest Louisiana feels a little more like Texas than Louisiana, but we found that you get a good helping of Arcadia which gave the city its uniqueness. We stayed at the L’auberge Casino Resort on the edge of town and made our way along the lakefront to downtown Lake Charles brimming with cool shops and eateries.

That evening we happened into a local Taqueria- Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp. All of the seafood on the menu is harvested daily by local fisherman, just hours before serving. For starters we chose the Shrimp Cheese Dip served with crispy tortilla chips seasoned with lightly Cajun spices and paired with an ice-cold Abita beer. The Catch of the day is amazing, served on a grilled tortilla and topped with Cajun style slaw.

The next day for breakfast, we found that there is no better way to start your day than with Chef Kevin Thompson signature chicken and waffles from Favorites inside L’auberge Casino Resort. Chef Thompson’s waffles are seasoned lightly rosemary which gives this dish his signature twist. The chicken was crispy on the outside, moist and tender inside – top with his rosemary infused maple syrup, country gravy or both. Amazing!
