Although many know about Sweetwater, TN being home to the United State’s largest underground lake, there is more to the little town located right outside of the Great Smoky Mountains. Every year they host a grand festival at their very popular muscadine vineyard, Tsali Notch, which has events running through multiple weekends in September. This year the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta will be held September 2nd-3rd while the National Muscadine Festival will occur September 22nd -23rd.

The National Muscadine Festival was originally formed in 2010 in conjunction with Sweetwater to raise money to replicate a depot that used to be located in town. Although they were able to raise the money and the replica is now up and running, the town agreed that Sweetwater needed another festival. Check out the festivities in store for you and your family.

Hot Air Balloons Fiesta

What began 3 years ago in support of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), Monroe has flourished into one of Sweetwater’s most beloved events. Typically, the balloon fiesta is a part of the Muscadine festival; however, because of its growing popularity, it is now held on September 2nd-3rd. Rain or shine, you will be able to enjoy their live entertainment, tasty foods, and fan favorite balloon glow held at night. This event ensures fun while supporting those in need. Find out more about this year’s balloon festival and get involved.

Wine Tasting

Naturally, with the festival being located in the state’s largest commercial vineyard, there will be plenty of wine tasting available at the festival. From red to white wine, you can choose from Tsali Notch’s seven selections, three of which were award winning, to sip on while you browse around. For added flavor, pair it with cheese from Sweetwater Valley Cheese, the town’s local cheese making facility. Both delicious products are a treat you won’t want to skip out on. Check out their wine selection to get an idea of what you want to try out when you drop by the festival.
