This summer, on the weekend of June 23rd and 24th, Friday and Saturday, come away from the fast-paced side of the Smoky Mountains and spend your weekend in Blount County for the Summer on Broadway celebration. Summer on Broadway includes a series of outdoor events unique to the region and the season, such as Maryville’s Farmers Market, Hops in the Hills, and more.

Maryville’s Farmers Market

Like most farmer’s markets, the Maryville farmers market has an array of locally grown vegetables, local honey, and the best food from produce, to meat, to jams.

Big BBQ Bash

Created by the Leadership Blount Class of 2007, a barbecue cook-off will be taking place all day

Friday and Saturday of Summer on Broadway in Founder’s Square. This cook-off will be a fundraiser for the Helen Ross McNabb Center and is a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned competition. Categories for the competition include Wampler’s Sausage, Bush’s Best Beans, pork, chicken, ribs, beef brisket, and dessert. Cash and prizes will total $10,000.

This barbecue cook-off has been proclaimed by Governor Bill Haslam to be a state championship, making it qualify for the American Royal Barbecue Cook-Off and Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue. Since its first year, the Big BBQ Bash has raised almost $150,000 for charitable causes in Blount County. This year, all proceeds will go to charities for mental health, addiction treatment, and social services.

Smoky Mountain Dock Dogs

Watch dogs participate in competitions to do a high vertical jump, race to retrieve items from the water, and jump from the dock into a pool. You’ll see dogs do amazing things. If your dog is skilled at jumping and swimming, you may even want to register your own dog for this competitive event!

Napa Know How Auto Fest

If you love cars, you’ll definitely want to be at this event displaying sports cars and antiques. Set up will begin at noon on Friday and registration will go from 8 to 11 am Saturday morning. Judging will commence at 11 in order to announce the winners at 3. Come out to browse through cars or register your own car for a chance to win.

City of Alcoa Freedom Fest

Celebrate Independence Day early on the Alcoa Duck pond from 6 pm to 11 pm on Saturday. Once again, Pyro Shows, Inc. will be putting on the fireworks production as well as choreographing it to popular music, from pop hits to patriotic classics. Music will be broadcasted from speakers along Springbrook Road, so be sure to get there early to get a good spot.

Hops in the Hills

This year will be the 3rd annual craft beer festival in Maryville. There you will be able to taste some of the finest, richest flavors produced by local craft brewers. In addition to the amazing taste, Hops in the Hills also has tons of fun planned for the weekend with their Craft Brew Crawl & Poker Run on Friday and a festival from 5-9 pm Saturday evening.
